Intellectual Understanding vs. Experiential Knowing

Before we get into more of the details of how I coach, I think it is helpful to briefly cover an important distinction that provides a fundamental reason for why coaching is the best tool available on the planet for personal growth and development.

There are two components to really "knowing" something on a deep level. There is the intellectual understanding and there is the experiential knowing.

Have you ever wondered why it's sometimes hard to apply great ideas that you learn about in books and seminars? There are plenty of great ideas out there that really do work, however, just reading a book or attending a seminar isn't usually enough to allow you to create really significant results. There is another component necessary.

Is it possible for you to know what a strawberry tastes like just by me telling you in great detail what it's like? Or do you actually need to taste it in order to really know what I am referring to when I say the word "strawberry?"

If you experience struggle or challenges in any area where you intellectually understand what you need to do but still can't quite make it happen, then you're likely missing the experiential part of the equation.

For any big change that you want to make or goal that you want to reach, it is frequently true that you actually need to integrate new ways of being into your life in order to be successful (new habits, new beliefs about yourself or your situation, new ways of seeing things, etc). It is extremely helpful, or even necessary in many circumstances, to have a support structure in place.

A skilled coach is the best possible support structure available for making the changes necessary for you to be able to create and live your ideal life!
